Terms of Service

Rotor Authenticator (“Rotor”, “the Software”) is operated by Deepak Marathe, a sole proprietor established in India, trading as dfacto.ai. Contact: support@dfacto.ai.

Rotor is licensed to you under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. That licence governs your rights to use, study, modify and redistribute the Software, and it takes precedence over anything in these Terms that would restrict them. These Terms cover this website and any paid tier we may sell; they do not, and cannot, take away a right the GPL grants you.

Paid tiers are published on this site but are not currently on sale. No payment can be taken and no licence can be issued today. If and when checkout opens, a purchase buys a licence key that unlocks capabilities added after version 1.0; it does not buy the Software itself, which remains free.

Everything present in version 1.0 is free for everyone, permanently, and no future version will move an existing capability behind payment.

There is no account to create and no server that stores your data. We do not hold your 2FA secrets, we cannot recover them, and we cannot reset anything on your behalf. If you lose your passphrase and your recovery key, the vault cannot be opened — by you or by us.

The Software is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, as stated in sections 15 and 16 of the GPL. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and nothing here affects your statutory consumer rights.

In plain terms: Rotor is a tool for generating one-time codes. It is not a guarantee that your accounts cannot be compromised, and storing 2FA seeds in a browser is a weaker posture than a separate hardware token. That trade-off is described openly on the home page and in the project's threat model.

These Terms may change. Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page. The guarantees published in the repository — free forever, export never gated, no telemetry — are held in version control precisely so that weakening them is a public, attributable change rather than a quiet edit here.

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Nothing in this clause deprives a consumer of the protection of mandatory rules of the country in which they live.
